Sex & Fördom
Art directing, designing cover art, branding and developing an AR filter for one of Swedens biggest podcasts.
BAckground
Late October 2021, I got an exiting message from one of the founders of the biggest activistic podcasts in Sweden, Fanna Ndow Norrby. The podcast they have is called Raseriet and she has it together with Amie Bramme Sey. When introducing me to their new production studio and the new podcast they She reached out asking if i’d be interested to design the cover art for a podcast called “Sex & Fördom” translated to “Sex and Prejudice”. A queer and activistic podcast by Kenxo Slayz, a Swedish-Burundian, religious queer man and social profile in Stockholm. My role developed from working as a cover artist, to further develop and design an AR filter, and establish branding and a strategy for their Instagram.

DISCOVErY, Insights & Concept
Fanna presented an idea in regards to what she wanted the cover art to look like, being based in representing Kenxo as being queer, black and catholic. The references she showed me was a picture of Cardi B presented as Holy Mary. Knowing that this could would be provocative and sensitve, I initiated a research phase asking religious and non religious people about the sensitivites of cover queer art inspiered by christian icon pictures. Something thought evoking and historically contradicting. The impressions where in a majority good, but we understood the need of storytelling and communicating the activistic background - which further got presented in a number of interviews in Swedish National Media and social media. As me and Kenxo are raised as Swedish -African, and as catholics we’re both queer we found the importance of communicating the need of representing an icon picture outside of the standard narrative. A thought evoking space to reflect together with the podcast. Futhermore, I initiated developing an AR filter together with the main social platform being Instagram, based on the rainbow halo visualized in the cover art. This to increase the visability and marketing of the podcast in a User generated way. In regards to the branding, I coniniued by creating a visual identity representing vibrancy, structure and who Kenxo is.
Defining
As previsouly mentioned the pillars for the defining the cover art laied in activism, of the podcast being black, religious and queer. When defining the branding for “Sex & Fördom” the main goal was creating a 360 structure to give the viewers a feeling of being onboarded and familiar when viewing the podcast social media. This by focusing on UX, using a color based structure for different types of content. Futhermore, there was a need of defining what content that was relevant and how to make it an easy journey for the content creators to post. This being based in entertaining, informative and interactive content. Another important factor in the definintion of the branding and design system was establishing a design system that was accesible for all people, with a focus on contrast and size.

Guidance and Implementation:
The guidance and implementation i provided for the the rest of the team being “Sex & Fördom” was based in continuous communication with the team, making them feel included and onboarded on the decisions. I provided all of the files behind the creation of the cover art, the design file of the AR filter as well as the access to seeing the analytics behind it created in Spark AR, as well as a Design System covering, Copy, Typography, Color, Accesability, Social Media Strategy, visual and content wise.
